Social media. We all have heard of it, some use it religiously. But do you know the potential of this technological tool to help grow your organization? Join us as we explore different social media outlets and the potential of each. We’ll consider successful examples of fundraising/ revenue, engagement, appeals and sales posts, and social media plans for any organization size and budget.

Communicating is for the Birds

While representing public lands, communication is our tool of choice. Doesn’t it make sense to practice making yourself understood to as many people as possible? Join Nicki Phelps (Peacock) in this fast paced, fun, informative session and learn your dominant communication style. You’ll learn to identify the four major communication style, exemplified by their bird counterparts: Eagle, Owl, Dove and Peacock. Each bird-style needs to process information in unique ways. By understanding them and adapting your style to that of others, it’s easy to get your point across!

Petroglyph National Monument Tour/Hike

Petroglyph National Monument protects one of the largest
petroglyph sites in North America, featuring designs and
symbols carved onto volcanic rocks by Native Americans and
Spanish settlers 400 to 700 years ago. Take a ranger-led tour
the site to learn more about how these images are a valuable
record of cultural expression and hold profound spiritual
significance for contemporary Native Americans and for the
descendants of the early Spanish settlers. Tour will include a
easy one mile round trip hike with a stop at the visitor center
where you can shop Western National Parks Association’s
bookstore. All of the petroglyph viewing is outdoors so be
prepared for the day’s weather and wear appropriate shoes.

Registration Fee: $10 for attendees or exhibitors (each tour is limited to 40 people)

Optional Special Events

Opening Reception, Sunday, February 23 (6:30 pm - 8:30 pm) - Celebrate the start of the convention during the opening reception, hosted by the Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau and held at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Enjoy hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar as you reconnect and network with friends and colleagues from across the country. Help others identify which public land site or organization you're representing by wearing apparel from your organization or agency.  Registration Fee: $49*

Keynote Luncheon and Cultural Performance, Monday, February 24 (12:00 pm - 1:30 pm) - Enrich your understanding of New Mexico Pueblo culture during this special lunch event featuring a Pueblo Dance Group performance. This must see performance will also explain the cultural significant of the various dances. Registration Fee: $50 / $40 with attendee or exhibitor registration

 Closing Banquet & Awards Ceremony, Wednesday, February 26 (7:00 pm - 9:30 pm)  - Join fellow convention attendees and exhibitors for a Route 66 themed event and the announcement of the 2014 APPL Media & Partnership Award winners.  This event will be held at the Hyatt Regency Albuquerque. Registration Fee: $55*

Santa Fe Bus Trip, Thursday, February 27 (9:00 am - 4:00 pm) - Travel north to historic and picturesque Santa Fe. Upon arrival you may take an optional guided walking tour, visiting such points of interest as the historic Plaza, St. Francis Cathedral, the Loretto Chapel with its famous "miraculous" staircase, and the San Miguel Mission. Lunch will be on your own at one of the many fabulous restaurants in the Plaza area. You can enjoy exploring the area on your own or indulge in a southwestern shopping spree at the many unique specialty stories and galleries around the Plaza. Bus will depart from and return to the Hyatt Regency Albuquerque. Registration Fee: $80 (attendees or exhibitors)

*Attendees can receive complimentary/discounted tickets to these events by using their Hyatt Regency Albuquerque hotel reservation at time of online registration (learn more).

Don't forget to use your Hyatt Regency Albuquerque or DoubleTree Hotel confirmation number at time of registration for extra savings! No refunds will be issued for  confirmation numbers provided at a later date. A separate registration form/online entry should be submitted for each registrant and companion.  All registrations must be accompanied with full payment by check made payable to "APPL" or credit card (MasterCard or Visa). An email confirmation will be sent to you once your registration is processed.

Cancelation policy: Cancelations and requests for refunds must be made in writing and received by APPL's registrar no later than February 1, 2014. This should be sent via e-mail to the registrar or by fax to 304-724-3007. A $75 processing fee will be deducted from all refunds. A $75 fee will be invoiced or added to government credit cards for cancelations of unpaid or no-show attendees. Registrations may be transferred to another person by writing to APPL in advance or by presenting a written notice at the convention. Failure to attend the convention and not cancel prior to the established cancelation date will result in a forfeiture of all registration fees. No refunds will be issued for cancelations received after February 1, 2014.
