Register early for the best savings and choice of full day
seminars and agency trainings. Optional trainings may be cancelled
if minimum enrollments are not met by the early registration
deadline. All registrations, except for those from government employees, must
be accompanied with full payment by check or credit card (MasterCard
or Visa). Government employees may submit the appropriate
authorization vouchers if they are unable to pay by credit card at
the time of registration. Government employees should classify APPL
as a nonprofit organization when arranging payment through their
agencies.

APPL Member: All staff, board, and volunteers from APPL
member organizations qualify for the member rate if their 2008
membership dues are paid by January 11, 2008.
Government: Employees from federal, state, and local
government agencies who work with nonprofit public land partners
qualify for the government rate.
Non-Member: Those not from an APPL member organization or
government agency should register at the non-member rate.
Special Offer for Non-Members
In addition to substantial savings on your convention
registration and scholarship eligibility, APPL membership is your
organization’s link to valuable information, networking
opportunities, and national representation all year round. Those who
register at the non-member attendee rate and decide to join APPL by
April 30, 2008 will be credited the $100 difference of a member
attendee registration to use towards their 2008 membership dues.

All registrants will receive an electronic confirmation of
registration from
registrar@ptfassociates.com sent to the e-mail address entered on
your registration form. To ensure receipt of your confirmation be
sure to add this e-mail address to your safe recipients list and
clear it from any spam blockers installed on your computer.
Registrations made online will receive instant e-mail notifications.
Allow two weeks for registrations that are mailed or faxed. If you do not
receive an e-mail confirmation or need to report corrections or
discrepancies e-mail

Cancellations and Refunds
Cancellations and requests for refunds for convention events
booked through APPL must be made in writing and received by APPL no
later than February 14, 2008. A $40.00 processing fee will be
deducted from all refunds. A $40.00 fee will be billed to government
credit cards or invoiced to registrants for cancellations of unpaid
attendees. Registrations may be transferred to another person by
writing to APPL in advance or by presenting a written notice at the
convention.
Scholarships
Staff and board members of APPL member organizations are eligible
to apply for convention scholarships. Please visit the
Member’s Area of the
APPL Web site to download an application or request a form by
contacting the APPL office. All scholarship applications are due by
January 11, 2008.

Twelve hours of educational sessions have been organized into 5
different tracks over 3 days to offer the best learning opportunity
for nonprofit public land partners. Follow a specific track or mix
and match the sessions you attend. Experience levels, from Beginner
to Advanced, have been assigned to assist you in choosing your
sessions. Map out your schedule in advance with co-workers, board
members, and partners who are also attending so you can maximize
your ability to gather information and updates.

Partnerships

Topics include agency agreements, communication skills,
relationship building and other nonprofit public land
partnership best practices.

Fundraising
|
Sessions include membership programs, fundraising skills, and
current issues surrounding fundraising for public lands.

|
Outreach
|
Content related to educational outreach,
membership programs, volunteerism and other methods of
generating awareness and stewardship of public lands.
|
|
Earned Income
|
Topics covering nonprofit retail operations,
publications and product development, and other programs
enabling nonprofits to earn income on public lands.

|
Management and Governance
|
Sessions on best practices of nonprofit governance, including
human resources, conflict resolution, risk management, and financial
management, as well as boardsmanship, strategic planning, and
advocacy.

You will put to practice the skills you learn in this training to
create sample displays. Make sure to bring a selection of products
from your own stores that you’d like to see fly off the shelves such
as books, games, postcards, pens, and stuffed animals or a line of
theme related products.

Fundamentals of GPS

This interactive workshop
taught by veteran instructor, Steve Reiter, from the US Geological
Survey will cover the fundamentals of GPS, including how to mark your
position and create waypoints. Hands-on activities will allow you to
apply what you’ve learned. Be prepared to go outside and bring
along a coat and comfortable walking shoes. Please bring your GPS
unit if you have one. There will only be 20 GPS receivers available
for participants to share during the workshop.

Digital Mapping with GPS and GIS

Learn more about geographic information systems (GIS).
Students will work with GPS-acquired data, as well as digital
aerial photos, elevation data, satellite-derived imagery,
and other downloadable data. This workshop will be entirely
indoors and all materials will be provided, including
computer usage with a partner.

Join directors, program managers, board members, and agency
partners for this interactive session on best practices in
Institute and Field School management. There will be a
welcome reception on Saturday evening, followed by a full
day of presentations and discussion on Sunday. The seminar
will feature a session by
Charles
R. Gregg, a leading expert on legal issues related to
outdoor programs. Other topics will include partnerships,
program development, and marketing for educational programs
offered by nonprofit partner organizations on public lands.

Examine the variety of services partners provide such as
marketing, fundraising, special events, and operations and
maintenance that all assist in fulfilling Corps goals. Come
learn about visitor trends and how to apply this to your
future programming and partnership initiatives. Information
regarding the role and mission of the newly established
Corps of Engineers Natural Resources Education Foundation
will also be provided. In addition, some time will be
devoted to the Corps Challenge Partnership Handshake Program
with updates on projects completed and useful tips on how to
strengthen your 2009 application. This valuable training is
intended to benefit those who have existing cooperating
associations and other types of partnerships as well as
those who do not. Appropriate for Corps employees at all
levels and nonprofit partner staff and board members.
Note -
Those interested in partnership basics and authorities are
encouraged to attend the USACE Partnership Fundamentals
session on Monday afternoon as this information will not be
covered during this training. |
