- Murfin Fund
Established in 1988 to sponsor guest faculty in
the publications field at APPL training programs and conventions.
This memorial fund carries on the legacy of James V. Murfin who, as NPS
servicewide cooperating association coordinator from 1974 to 1985, did much
to improve the quality of association publications. The fund is made up
of voluntary contributions.
- Scholarship Fund
Sponsors participation at APPL
conventions and other APPL training programs
for member associations that
could not otherwise afford to participate.
Applicants for scholarship funds must be APPL members
and must be approved by the APPL executive committee.
- Convention Sponsorship
Helps APPL
provide the highest quality educational training and networking
events for nearly 700 convention participants annually. Sponsorships
may be designated for speakers, educational materials, special
events and receptions. Donors receive recognition in the convention
program and at sponsored venues.
- Program Grants
Support capacity-building
efforts and professional development of APPL members and partners to
enhance visitor services, conservation, and public outreach efforts
on public lands. Grants may provide for curriculum development,
trainer training, workshops and seminars, strategic planning,
specialized needs assessments and surveys, and other educational
programs.
- General Operating Support
Undesignated or discretionary support, enabling APPL’s
board of directors to apply the funding to programs and projects
with the highest need and the
flexibility to meet demands and fund projects that might not as
easily qualify for program grant funding.
- Volunteerism
Volunteerism and other forms of in-kind
support are central to APPL’s ability to serve its members and the
public lands community. Members, agency staff, retirees, students,
and others interested in APPL’s mission may participate in committee
work, share their skills as trainers, or help to represent APPL at
conferences and meetings. A number of opportunities also exist
within the APPL office for skilled projects such as writing,
editing, technology and web design, data entry, and other support
tasks.
