APPL Initiatives & Issues
- Strategic Planning
Representatives from 23 APPL member organizations
gathered in Mesa, Arizona in October to advance APPL’s
strategic planning efforts. APPL’s board of directors met
for an additional two days following the facilitated forum to
begin drafting of a strategic plan for APPL. This draft plan will be shared first with forum participants and
then with the entire APPL membership and with agency partners.
Strategic directions requiring additional discussion or changes to APPL’s bylaws will be discussed during the
Portland Pathways 2005
convention in March.
Driving Forces
Information on trends affecting APPL, its members and partners
has been developed as a reference. Used in APPL planning forum, it cites “driving forces” in the external
environment grouped into 20 categories ranging from politics and
the economy to state and federal land management agencies, to
various types of nonprofit organizations. A list of websites and
references for future trend-watching appears at the end of the
paper.
